New Coordinator at Cluster of Excellence NeuroCure
01.11.2012
As of the start of the second funding phase on November 1, 2012, Professor Dr. Christian Rosenmund will be the new Coordinator of the Cluster of Excellence NeuroCure. He succeeds Professor Dr. Dietmar Schmitz, who will continue to support NeuroCure as a member of the Board of Directors. Christian Rosenmund was elected to the position of Coordinator at the Cluster of Excellence Members’ Assembly on October 1, 2012.
In choosing Christian Rosenmund, the Cluster has elected an outstanding, internationally recognized neuroscientist. Following work at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, among other places, the renowned neuroscientist came to Berlin in 2009 to join NeuroCure. Since then he has continued his successful research at the Cluster of Excellence in the field of information transmission between individual nerve cells in the brain – so-called synaptic transmission.
Already during the first funding period as a member of the Board of Directors, Christian Rosenmund demonstrated strong commitment to the Cluster and contributed to securing its successful continuation until 2017. He is thus ideally positioned to take over coordination of the Cluster.
Professor Schmitz will continue, as Board member, to contribute his experience and dedication in support of NeuroCure’s projects and goals. In addition, the following members were also elected to the Board of Directors at the Members’ Assembly: Carmen Birchmeier (Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine Berlin-Buch), Michael Brecht (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin), Ulrich Dirnagl (Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin), Annette Grüters-Kieslich (Charité) and Stephan Sigrist (Freie Universität Berlin).
“On behalf of the entire Cluster I would like to thank Dietmar Schmitz for his exceptional commitment. Through his hard work, he has in the last few years made a fundamental contribution to the expansion of the neurosciences in Berlin,” emphasizes the new Coordinator Christian Rosenmund, adding, “I would like to express my thanks to all members of the Cluster for the trust they have placed in me. I look forward to my new responsibilities as well as the further development of the Cluster in the next five years.”
