Endothelial activation, cerebral small vessel disease and cognition in the Berlin Aging Study II (BASE)

In this cross-sectional study, data from the longitudinal study BASE II will be analyzed to investigate the hypothesis that low levels of stromal-derived factor-1 in elderly subjects are associated with the severity of cerebral small vessel disease.

Project Director: Prof. Dr. Matthias Endres (CSB, Neurology)

Impact of cerebral ischemia on the composition of the gut microbiota

In this prospective observational proof-of-concept study, stool as well as a blood samples will be collected from stroke patients and a control group to investigate the hypothesis that cerebral ischemia induces changes in the human gut microbiome and that the gut microbiome of stroke patients differs from that of the non-stroke population.

Project Director: Prof. Dr. Ulrich Dirnagl (CSB, Neurology CCM)
