Student-run speaker series: Guillaume Bellec

On Monday July 3rd at 17:30, the student-run speaker series "Spikes - bug or feature" will feature a lecture by Guillaume Bellec, EPFL, Switzerland.

His presentation, entitled "AI for Neuroscience: Functional network reconstruction from large scale electrophysiology" will be held at the BCCN Lecture Hall, Philippstraße 13, Haus 6.

Abstract: Neuroscience laboratories are now recording simultaneously from thousands of neurons simultaneously with the hope to reverse engineer the mechanism of animals' motor behavior or decision making. We describe a reconstruction method that explains how the biophysical recurrent neural network contributes to behavior. Instead of relying on abstract latent dynamics as in many contemporary models, we use tools from artificial intelligence to reconstruct an entire network of spiking neurons responsible for a sensory-motor loop. We will demonstrate that his method enables the recovery of anatomical connectivity and predict the impact of optogenetic causal interventions on the recorded network.
